Community Cards
In poker, the term “community cards” refers to the cards laid out face up on the table which are shared by all players. These cards are used by players to create hands in combination with their hole cards.
The most well-known type of poker to use community cards is Texas hold ‘em. In this game, five community cards are laid out on the table:
Flop - the first three community cards, which are dealt out onto the table after the first betting round (preflop).
Turn - the fourth community card dealt after the second betting round.
River - the fifth and final community card dealt after the third betting round.
Players use these community cards in combination with two of their hole cards to build the best possible five-card hand. Omaha hold ‘em is another popular type of poker which uses community cards, but in this game, the players have four hole cards instead of two.
