Dealer
In poker, the “dealer” is the person dealing the cards. In casinos and poker clubs, a specially appointed member of staff - the croupier - is responsible for dealing the cards. However, in home games and some tournaments, the dealer could be one of the players.
The word “dealer” can also refer to the position of a player at the table. The customer sitting in the dealer’s position is the last to make their move in the betting round, which gives them a strategic advantage. After each round, the position of the dealer moves clockwise on to the next player. A special marker called a “dealer button” is often used to indicate who at the table is the dealer.
It is important to note that even if the presence of a croupier frees players up from having to physically deal cards, the dealer’s position is still significant in determining the order of turns and who can place blinds.
