Overpair
The term “overpair” in poker refers to a situation where a player has a pair in their hand which is higher than any of the cards laid out on the table. This means that the player has a pair of cards which are superior to all the community cards on the table.
For example, if the cards on the table are J-9-5, and you have a pair of tens (10-10) in your hand, you have an overpair, because your pair of tens is superior to all the cards on the table, including the jack, nine, and five.
An overpair is considered to be a strong hand in the majority of scenarios, and players usually try to place bets and increase the pot when they have an overpair, for the purpose of maximizing their winnings. However, as in any poker game, it’s important to consider the context, style of play of your opponents, and dynamic of the hand when making decisions about how to play with an overpair.
